Current status
Early works are complete, with the following now open and available for use:
- a new park 'n' ride facility and bus interchange on the eastern side of Landsborough station.
- a new park 'n' ride facility on the eastern side of Nambour station.
- a new 1km section of Steve Irwin Way, between Nursery Road and Moffatt Road, realigned to accommodate the new rail corridor and track infrastructure.
A John Holland Queensland and Seymour Whyte Joint Venture was awarded the contract to deliver the Stage 1 major rail works package.
The Joint Venture commenced enabling works to relocate existing rail signalling systems and other utilities as well as targeted clearing within the project corridor in August 2025.
Main construction works commenced in November 2025 and are expected to be complete in late-2027, weather and construction conditions permitting. Final testing, commissioning, and operational readiness activities will then be undertaken to ensure the new rail infrastructure is ready to carry passengers in early-2028.
Active transport
To ensure the safety of members of the community as construction works progress, rolling changes will be required to pedestrian and bike rider access throughout the project area. Diversions, closures, additional safety controls, and alternative transport options such as shuttle buses will be implemented where necessary to ensure the safety of trail users. Any changes will be communicated to the community in advance. Subscribe to project updates to receive further details delivered straight to your inbox.
Interface with regional projects
The B2N Stage 1 project is an important part of broader transport planning for an enhanced and integrated public transport network that better connects Sunshine Coast communities and helps to divert traffic off the Bruce Highway.
B2N Stage 1 will tie in with the first stage of The Wave at Beerwah, and together will improve public transport infrastructure and services for the growing Sunshine Coast Region.
Environment, culture and heritage
The B2N Stage 1 project is committed to the protection and sustainability of our unique Sunshine Coast environment, culture and heritage. The project team aims to tread lightly, minimise and mitigate impacts, and to enhance where possible.
